The Covid Catalog, Gone Too Soon, Dolores Altagracia Mena

The Covid Catalog celebrates Dolores Altagracia Mena, 84, of New York

Born in 1936 in the Dominican Republic, Dolores Altagracia Mena grew up on a farm on the coast in Monte Cristi. She moved to the United States in 1978 and settled in New York. She wanted to be closer to her family. She stayed in an apartment in Jackson Heights, Queens, for about 36 years. Her grandson, Steven Luna, said she loved living in New York a lot.

Dolores enjoyed reading books, taking hot chocolate with whipped cream, puzzles, Sudoku, crosswords, and building Lego sets- her favorite set of all was the White House. She studied to become a fashion designer as a youth but gave up her studies and started duties as a caretaker when she had her three children.

Dolores contracted the virus in April 2020 and died on the 17th same month. She was 84. She has nine grandchildren.
