The Covid Catalog Gone To Soon, Aspen Deke
The Covid Catalog remembers Aspen Deke, 17, of Kansas City, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on 19TH November. She was admitted to Children’s Mercy Hospital two weeks before Christmas.
Deke died nearly three months after she was diagnosed with the fatal virus. Since New Year’s Eve, she had been staying in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, most of the time being on a ventilator.
According to her parents, the Fort Osage High School junior was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at 4. She beat cancer three times after undergoing chemotherapy for four years and a bone marrow transplant.
Deke’s parents said their daughter’s experience with coronavirus was much worse than battling cancer. “At least as bad as cancer sounds, there is a lot that you know about it, but with COVID-19, everything is unknown,” Aspen’s father, Eric Deke, told Fox 4.
Aspen’s favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved baking cakes and cupcakes for upcoming holidays and always bought gifts for her family and friends.
