The Covid Catalog, Gone Too Soon, Wanda DeSelle
The Covid Catalog remembers Wanda DeSelle, 76, Madera.
Wanda DeSelle died on April 3, 2020, from Covid-19 complications. She was 76. Wanda fell ill after attending Maria Rodriguez’s funeral, a fellow nurse who died in a car accident in late February. DeSelle was among mourners who sat at the same table with a man who was an asymptomatic carrier of Covid-19 and likely contracted the virus unknowingly.
DeSelle was hospitalized as her condition worsened. Her family later learned that her daughter and pregnant granddaughter had been exposed to the virus when caring for DeSelle.
She was a nurse at Ashraf’s clinic, and she always showed up at work very early and could be the last one to leave at 7 in the evening. ‘She arrived early even when she was sick; we’d have to send her home,’ Said Mohammed Ashraf, her longtime boss.
‘DeSelle was very loyal, and she could do everything. She was a nurse, a receptionist, a biller, and she could type,’ Ashraf said.
She is survived by her two daughters, Maureena Silva and Tonya Moe; a brother, Robert; two grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
