Ronald was born in San Fernando in 1935 and moved with his family to Yreka in 1953. He attended Yreka High School, where he met his first, Maxine. They raised three children. Ronald worked as a stucco contractor with his father after high school.
His first marriage ended in 1970, and he married Schroeder for 42 years until she died in 2016. The couple had a strong marriage, and her death hit him hard.
Ronald was known for singing gospel songs and being extraordinarily frugal. He collected spare change at the Green Acres RV Park he ran with his wife, Sheryl. He had saved more than $7,000, according to his family.
