Merrick Dowson died from COVID-19 complications on April 10 at Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center. He was 67. His daughter Laura believes that Merrick caught the virus while traveling to Los Angeles by plane in early March. Dowson was admitted to the hospital after developing a fever and a cough.
Merrick had a severe encounter with the swine flu in 2009. Laura said that his lungs were compromised, and since the coronavirus destroys the lungs, he could not overcome it.
Mr. Dowson was born on September 12, 1952. He went to Magdalen College School in Oxford. Dowson moved to the U. S. IN 1976, and he founded a wine importing business -Adventures in Wine. He headed the company until his death.
He married Sharon Ackel in 1980, and they had three children, Laura Douglas and Nathan. They later divorced after 28 years. He was sweet to his family, full of humor, and had a good heart. To his business associates, he was a man of dignity and integrity. He made everyone feel valued.
