Kenneth O. Washington, a businessman and school security officer, died on March 18 at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The cause was Covid-19. He was 70.
Mr. Washington was born in West Philadelphia to Benjamin Sr. and Hattie Washington. He grew up on Commerce Street and at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, went to Philadelphia public schools and graduated from Overbrook High School in 1968. Kenneth studied business at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
Mr. Washington bought Boron’s meat market where he was working, at 21. He was one of the youngest and only black business owners in the area. He sold the business and started working as a grief counsellor. Kenneth later became a school security officer at different schools.
He was a man of faith, an avid Philadelphia sports fan and loved reading Daily News. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Evelyn Brown Washington; sons Ricardo and Keenan Sr.; two stepchildren; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
