The Covid Catalog, Gone Too Soon, Divina Accad

The Covid Catalog remembers Divina Accad, 72, of Taylor

Divina Accad was a Veterans Affairs nurse at John D. Dingel Medical Center, and she spent her life looking after sick veterans in Detroit, according to Mark Accad, her son. She was a hero and risked her life for veterans.

Divina died of complications of COVID-19 on March 30. He was 72. Mark said his mother died after spending 11 days in a hospital in Taylor. Her death was the first known death from COVID-19 among healthcare providers in the Detroit area.

Divina, who was known as Debbie, had told her son a month before her death that she was thinking of retiring. She fell ill on March 20 and was hospitalized with pneumonia. Mark was able to visit his mother twice in the hospital.

Mark said his mother loved being a nurse, and she was always helpful to others. She lived across the street from Mark, her youngest, in Taylor. She is survived by her husband, William Accad, two other sons, Willie Jr. and Reagan; a daughter, Lovelet, and five grandchildren.
