The Covid Catalog celebrates Desanka Mitrovich, 95, of San Diego

Desa was a formidable woman, loyal to her friends and relatives, mean but still wonderful, ever elegant, dolled, forceful, and fighter. She was charismatic with beautiful singing voices, a dark sense of humor, and lived life on her terms. Desa was an extraordinary woman of her generation.

Desa was born in 1925 in Montenegro. As a young woman, she worked as a school teacher and later became a mistress of a one-room schoolhouse. In her thirties, she fought against the Axis occupation in Yugoslavia during the Second World War. In 1960 Mitrovich moved to San Diego. She went to the San Diego State University and worked at the University’s library in the acquisition department for decades until retirement. Desa never got married.

Mitrovich was suffering from heart attack ailments, and on May 23rd, 2020, she died from Lymphoma and Covid-19 complications. She was 95.
