Carol Murphy died of COVID-19 complications on May 10, 2020, at a skilled nursing facility in Vallejo. He was 91. Murphy was born in San Francisco in 1928; she was the second of three sisters, with Lois being the firstborn and Elinor lastborn. She stayed single and dedicated her life to her work overseas.
Carol spent her life as an educator in the U. S. Army’s Morale Welfare and Recreation program. She played an essential role in setting up the first education center for the Army Sergeants Major Academy in Fort Bliss, Texas.
Carol loved French wine and German beer. She traveled to more than 20 countries as a civil servant and Peace Corps volunteer. ‘She was everywhere,’ her niece Anne Mendoza said. Helping people was her aunt’s favorite hobby.
Murphy retired at the age of 66, and she knew what to do next: she traveled to different countries until her mid- 80s, at which point she had friends all over the world. Her niece said she loved India most.
