The Covid Catalog remembers Brenda Ballin. Brenda died at 91 on 28th January at her home in Manhattan. Her daughter Leslie said the cause was COVID-19 complications. She was born on 7th May 1929, in New York to Arthur and Frances Phillips. Her father died of a heart attack in 1934, and he was the vice president of the shirt maker Phillips-Van Heusen.
Ms. Ballin graduated from the Dalton School and studied fashion careers at the Tobe-Coburn School in the early 1950s. She worked at Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar for a time. She volunteered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art twice a week for some three decades since 1970.
Her family said that she was a talented storyteller. She made a good impression on museum visitors and the institution’s top staff members.
Her husband, Stanley Ballin, whom she married in 1956, died in 1987. She is survived by her daughter Leslie Ballin and Shakira Ballin and two grandchildren.
